Anneleen Lindsay is a professional freelance photographer, based in Edinburgh and working throughout the UK. She works mainly in portraiture, performance, documentary, fashion, editorial and architectural photography; for individuals, exhibition, commercial clients and publication.
Anneleen is passionate about creative storytelling portraiture, collaborative projects with fellow creatives and socially engaged projects. A common thread is the exploration of the interplay between people and the specific environments and places they inhabit or pass through. She works with artists, businesses, charities and communities to create photographic stories which draw viewers into their individuality, motivations and processes, via both reflective and vibrant imagery.
Anneleen’s work has been exhibited in over 40 countries and has been published in the Guardian, New York Times, The Stage, Aesthetica Magazine, London Evening Standard, The Scotsman, BBC, ITV, Professional Photographer Magazine, Positive News Magazine and more . She has won and been shortlisted for several photography awards and competitions, including Portrait of Britain x 3, RPS International Print Exhibition, RPS Documentary Awards, Creative Edinburgh Freelancer of the Year and the Julia Margaret Cameron Awards in 4 categories.
In addition to her own photographic work, Anneleen also facilitates workshops and mentors individuals as they explore photography and creativity. She has several years experience of exhibition organisation and supporting fellow creatives in showing their work. She has been a member of the POST Photography Collective since its inception in 2021.
Major commissions include a 4 year residency with Capital Theatres documenting the transformation of the King’s Theatre; ‘Our Freedom Then and Now’ with Future Arts Centres and Open Eye Gallery, exhibiting at the Southbank Centre and touring; ‘Shakespeare Lives’ with the British Council, creation of a series of portraits reinterpreting famous characters from Shakespeare’s works which was exhibited in galleries, embassies and events globally.
